The difference between the four bases
Reine
The clearest local hub with several services, activity offers and transport options. Accommodation may still be some distance from the centre, so check the address.
Hamnøy
Known for fjord and mountain views and traditional fishermen's cabins. Groceries and restaurants are more limited, so a car or a transport connection you have checked makes the stay easier.
Sakrisøy
A small island setting with fishermen's cabins and seafood between Hamnøy and Reine. It suits a stay in a compact village, but check walking routes and opening hours.
Sørvågen
Convenient for Moskenes and hikes in western Lofoten. If a ferry or early departure shapes your schedule, this may be a more practical choice than a postcard view.
Choose the individual fishermen's cabin, not just the operator
Two fishermen's cabins at the same property can differ in views, kitchen equipment, size, renovation and distance from parking. Read the description and photos of the specific unit. Check whether linen, cleaning and breakfast are included, along with the cancellation terms.
With family or several nights, kitchen and laundry can be more valuable than hotel service. On short stays without a car, a central location and easy check-in may be more important. In winter, you should examine the walkway, lighting and how far luggage must be carried.

Fjord, fishing village and mountain tours
The Reinefjord and the fishing villages are the main experience even without a long mountain hike. Kayaking, boat trips and local excursions must be chosen according to wind, waves and the operator's judgment. Add the most important sea activity early in your stay.
Reinebringen is steep and popular. Its steps do not remove the need for fitness, weather assessment, consideration for other walkers and a safe return. Snow, ice, wind or poor visibility can make the hike unsuitable. Other routes nearby may cross avalanche terrain or require a boat. Use current hiking information and local expertise.
Å and Sørvågen provide museums, a bakery tradition, a fishing village and the western terminus of the E10 area. Check the opening of the season and do not fill the day with several long trips.
Ferry, bus, parking and luggage
On ferry arrival in Moskenes, you must have a plan on to the actual accommodation. Distances that look short can be impractical with luggage, darkness or winter weather. Check bus, taxi and possible pick-up before booking.
Follow local parking instructions. Popular viewpoints, Reinebringen and small fishermen's cabin areas have limited capacity. Do not use passing places, bus bays, private quays or roadside verges as overflow parking.
If you are going to catch a ferry or plane, sleep close to the point of departure or leave a large margin. Weather and traffic can affect both driving and sea transport.
Food, groceries and seasonality
Restaurants and shops are more spread out than in Svolvær and Leknes. Reserve a dinner table where possible and check kitchen hours and seasonal opening. Seafood and local produce are part of the experience, but small venues can fill up.
If the rorbua has a kitchen, make larger purchases before you arrive or when you pass a good grocery store. Do not assume that all units have the same kitchen equipment; read the facilities.
Use the restaurant overview and the café overview, but always check the latest information with the place itself.
Three days in the Reine area
Day 1: check in and stick to Reine, Hamnøy and Sakrisøy. Choose one meal and let the scenery be the activity.
Day 2: use the best weather forecast for hiking, kayaking or boating. Have a full-fledged plan B with museum, fishing village and food.
Day 3: visit Sørvågen and Å, or do the activity that was postponed. Leave plenty of time to reach your ferry.
