Know the area

Reine, Hamnøy or Flakstad?

Reine

The easiest choice without a car and a good starting point for the Reinefjorden. The selection of groceries and places to eat is limited compared to Svolvær.

Hamnøy and Sakrisøy

Great view and rorbu environment. Expect to walk along or near the E10 in some places, and check how far it is to meals and shops.

Flakstad and Nusfjord

A quieter area near several beaches. Having your own car clearly gives you the most flexibility here.

Short recommendationChoose Reine without a car. Choose Hamnøy for a view. Choose Nusfjord or Flakstad when peace, proximity to the beach and access by car are most important.

Short and specific

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers for choosing a base and accommodation.

Are Reine, Hamnøy and Sakrisøy the same area?

They are close together in Moskenes, but are separate fishing villages and small islands. The drive may be short, while walking with luggage or in winter conditions requires more planning.

Where should I stay for Reinebringen?

Reine and the surrounding area are closest to the trailhead, but parking and local restrictions must be checked. Never choose accommodation based solely on the straight-line distance on a map.

Is rorbu always better than hotels around Reine?

Rorbu is suitable when a kitchen, separate living room and sea environment are important. A hotel or room can be easier when you want breakfast, service and fewer practical tasks.

When should I book in Vest-Lofoten?

For summer, Easter and popular winter weekends, you should book early. Use the date search for availability and check the cancellation terms before paying.
